EVERGREEN 70's Camp

Big songs, incredible musicianship, ambitious arrangements and some of the greatest records ever made. Welcome to the 70s! The 1970s was an incredible period of musical experimentation. Rock, pop, jazz, funk, soul, folk and classical music increasingly collided and fused together, as musicians pushed beyond the boundaries of individual genres and recording technology opened up a whole new world of possibilities. For Evergreen 70s Camp, that's where we're going to spend most of our time!

We'll explore the sophisticated songwriting and musicianship of 70s pop and rock, particularly the worlds of progressive rock and what later became known as yacht rock. Expect unusual chords, big vocal harmonies, changing time signatures, extended song structures, intricate guitar and keyboard parts and some seriously great grooves. We've already dedicated entire Evergreen camps to some of the other huge musical movements of the decade, including Hard Rock, Reggae, Punk and Disco, so this time we're diving into another side of the 70s and exploring what happened when great musicians started throwing different styles into the melting pot.

Participants will learn new techniques on their instruments, explore the songwriting, harmony, rhythm and production ideas that defined the era and, most importantly, play lots and lots of 70s MUSIC!

​

The main focus of our camps is to break off into small bands coached by members of our amazing Evergreen teaching team. These bands all learn different songs to perform at a gig for family and friends on the final day of camp.

​

Expect to learn new music, tackle some seriously great songs, make lots of new friends and spend a few days exploring one of the most creative decades in popular music.

MUSIC YOU'LL PLAY?

Think Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, Electric Light Orchestra, Billy Joel, Elton John, 10cc, Wings, Toto, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, America, Hall & Oates, Yes, Genesis and plenty more. From beautifully crafted pop songs and enormous vocal harmonies to funky rhythm sections, extended arrangements, odd time signatures and chords you didn't even know existed, there's an enormous amount of music to explore!

Morning tea and lunch are provided by Evergreen, but be sure to fill in the ‘Dietary Requirements’ on the booking form. (If you’re a fussy eater it might be best to bring some of your own food).

WHEN

These holidays we will be running two (JUNIOR) camp sessions for kids in School Grades 2 to 7. We'll also be running two separate (SENIOR)camp, which is a 2 day intensive for kids in School Grades 7 to Grade 12.

 

JUNIOR CAMPS (School Grades 2 to 7)

* WEEK 1: Monday 28th September - Wednesday 30th September 2026

* WEEK 2: Tuesday 6th October - Thursday 8th October 2026
9am - 3pm each day (with a 6.30pm evening show / performance on the Final Day)

SENIOR CAMP (School Grades 7 to 12)
ONE CAMP ONLY!: Thursday 1st October - Friday 2nd October 2026

9am - 4pm each day (with a 7.00pm evening show / performance on the Final Day)
